One of the problems that Australian's face when designing jackets is being able to get a hold of some good lining. Many young tailors choose to print their own - which sometimes is not the fashion of the customer - especially if you don't want nude girls in swimming pools on the inside of your wedding jacket. It could be taken the wrong way by your new in-laws....
Most of the cloth companies sell their own linings - and this is great when you are using their cloth - but when you have a Dormeuil cloth with a Holland & Sherry or a Zegna lining, this looks a little wrong, especially when the name is etched all over the fabric. Furthermore, the choices you have for these branded linings are usually solid colours, a nice range, but no zing no zang.
Then I stumbled upon John G Hardy of London through Michael Pascalis on O'Connell Street, Sydney. He brought me in some lining for sampling purposes and I was very impressed. Lining is important to get right. If it's silk it can be too hot and the natural properties of silk are that when it gets moist it can tear easily. Therefore, the chosen jacket lining fabric of choice is generally viscose for its lightness and breathing qualities. These ones below are not only the right choice of fabric, but they are cool too no?
